BRENTZ THOMPSON
Club PresidentBrentz Thompson was born January 9, 1949 in Charleston, WV. He graduated from Dunbar High School in June 1966 and enrolled at WVU where he majored in Political Science. Through ROTC, he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in Infantry in May 1970. The DOD did not plan on activating this cohort for active duty beyond 3 months, so BT applied to WVU law school. After acceptance, he was deferred from active duty.
Mr. Thompson began law school in the Fall of 1970. He married in 1972. After graduation in May 1973, he moved from Infantry to Judge Advocate General’s Corps and went through field training at Fort Gordon, GA in July 1973. After attending JAG School, he was posted to Fort Leonard Wood, MO to the Staff Judge Advocate’s Office in 1974 and immediately began trial work. A daughter, Elizabeth, was born in March 1976. She is now an RN and works at the hospital in Beaufort, SC.
CPT Thompson was discharged from active duty in November 1977 and was hired by the WV Public Service Commission. In May 1978, he was hired as Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in Fayette Co., WV. He also began civil practice, to include real estate law, divorce and child custody law, adoptions and contract law.
BT resigned his county duties in September 1982 and maintained full-time civil practice until he began work for the January 1983 session of the WV Legislature as Senate Counsel to the Democratic Majority Whip, the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee and the Senate Natural Resources Committee. At the time, there were only three Republican Senators in the West Virginia Legislature.
After the 1983 session, Thompson was hired by the WV State Dept. of Education as Assistant Legal Counsel to represent the Dept. and State Board of Education in litigation and employee grievances to track education-related legislation. He was promoted to Legal Counsel in 1984.
BT resigned the SDE in 1989 to join a full-time legal practice in Charles Town, WV, and remained in the general practice of law. He left that practice in 1991 to join the Higher Education Central Office, where he represented the assigned WV public universities and colleges as General Counsel.
In 1992, Brenz and Pam were married on October 9, 1993. They moved to Fairlea and Brenz joined the Fairlea United Methodist Church choir in 1994. He continued to work at the WVOSM as in-house legal counsel until 1996, when he accepted employment at WVSOM as in-house legal counsel.
Brenz retired as WVSOM legal counsel in January 2009 and began limited legal practice until 2011, when he was hired by West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in contracts and leases. This practice lasted until the College closed in 2013, and BT again retired.
BT began part-time work as a tour guide for the Cold War Bunker in 2013 until summer of 2015, when he became ill.
In 2014, BT joined a local performing group, Flesh & Brass, in the Lewisburg area. In 2018, he joined Tuesdays at Ten, a men’s musical group based in Lewisburg.
Brenz joined the Greenbrier County Republican Club in 2021 and served as Chair of the Republican Booth at the State Fair in 2023 and 2024. He was elected as President of the Club in November 2024 for the 2025–26 term.
DOUG MCKINNEY
Vice President, CentralDr. Douglas McKinney, a WVU Medical School graduate, served the Med School Alumni Association. He spent 10 years in the U.S. Navy, retiring as a Commander. As President of the WV State Medical Association, he received two awards for 25 years of leadership, also serving as their WESPAC chairman for 6 years. During the intense medicolegal legislative war in 2002-03, he raised $128,000 in one month.
Dr. McKinney held various positions, including President of the Mid-Atlantic Section of the American Urological Association and board membership in UROPAC. He served as President of the American Association of Clinical Urologists, an AMA delegate, and president of medical associations in Boyd County, KY, and Harrison County, WV. He was also the Chief of Staff at Kings Daughters Hospital in Ashland, KY.
As WVGOP Chairman from 2006-10, he successfully paid off a $250,000 party debt. Additionally, Dr. McKinney is a member of the WV Soccer Association Hall of Fame, recognized for his contributions as a soccer coach, referee, referee instructor, and 6-year director of the WVODP state soccer teams.
ROBERT “TREY” HOLLAND
Vice President, EasternROBERT “TREY” LOUIS HOLLAND, III grew up in North Central West Virginia, in the community of Greenwood in beautiful Doddridge County. He has been a lifelong conservative and West Virginia resident. He credits his interest in politics and community engagement to his late father Judge Robert L. Holland, Jr. of the 3rd Circuit Court of West Virginia.
He is a graduate of Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Virginia, and received his Bachelor of Arts degree from West Virginia University in 2011. He is a proud member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity, where he served as Secretary of the James Cochran House, Association of Phi Kappa Psi, Inc., (2018-2020), and remains involved. He is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Public Administration & Policy at Virginia Tech.
His familiarity with Greenbrier County started at an early age, attending Camp Greenbrier in Alderson during his summers as a child, and later working at Camp Allegheny during his summers through college.
He first moved to Greenbrier County full-time in 2020, where he spent two years serving as a Deputy Assessor for Greenbrier County, familiarizing himself with local government and meeting the wonderful people that call Greenbrier County home.
His professional career has been in the field of Oil and Gas where he has worked as a Title Abstractor & Heirship Researcher for over 10 years and is currently employed with Purple Land Management.
He recently served as the Committee Clerk for the Committee on Banking and Insurance and the Committee on Fire Departments and Emergency Services for the 2024 Legislative Session in Charleston, WV.
He has been elected as the Vice-President, Eastern Greenbrier County, WV for 2025–2026 term.
He currently resides in Fort Springs on the Greenbrier River with his wife Nathalie and their golden retriever puppy, Eloise.
